Filip, all working with and around Godflesh's Justin Broadrick's riffs. That's quite a lot of people to pack in an eleven track album, but the whole thing work very well. Quickly said, we're speaking mid-tempo drum'n'bass, long weeping guitars, energetic vocals (on some tracks) and a first-class production. Gritty but polished, diverse but compact: a successful meeting of excellent musicians.

A Lemonday EP that doesn't sound much like this,

(but is still good).

I decided to check this guy out after one of my recent tracks was compared to his stuff (I've never heard him before, so any similarities are purely coincidental!) - I think this is my favourite one of the albums I've listened to now.

Like the Diblo Dibala-esque guitar, even if you can hardy hear it above all the clatter.

I prefer old skool techno to modern stuff :mmm:

It simply sounded warmer, and the sounds were more interesting. Modern techno sounds cold and boring to me...

Elements mixed by Red Jerry for DJ Magazine, in 1999. I used to have this CD, it came free with an issue of DJ Mag when I used to read that. Lost it a while back, which I was gutted about, I loved the CD so much, and could never find its constituent tracks. After years of searching, literally 3 or 4 times a year I'd have a good scour for it, or the tracks on it individually, it's on its way from Soulseek... God bless Soulseek, only one guy has it, and it's a slow download, but it's coming!

If anyone is even remotely interested, it's a promo mix for an off-shoot of Hooj Choons called Airtight records. Sort of dark, dubby house, I guess you'd call it.

This is the first (and one of only a couple from the mix that're pretty commonly available) track off it:

Chris Squire's bass tone in Starship Trooper is one of the greatest.

Currently listening to "Obituary - Find the Arise" - some of the most expressive drumming I've heard to this day.

I just got back from the pub where there was a pretty glorious paylist at full volume. Most notably Placebo - Nancy Boy. Man, I wished I'd seen them in their pomp (I never saw Suede live either, bugger). Another notable was Monaco - What Do You Want From Me. Peter Hook was on 5Live today talking about the project to arrange some Joy Division songs for orchestra. It was quite emotional as the previous guest was Michael Palin, who had talked about his own sister's battle with depression and eventual suicide. I've always loved Hooky's bass sound - not bass in scale at all, but really buzzy and melodic. Top man.

Anyway, I'm just rambling as usual. As you were.

Great track.

It's also on the Weatherall disc of this album:

If you like that track you'll love this mix. Ahem.

This lp was released under the name © in the early nineties, there was a track on one of those Volume magazine/CD things but obviously its impossible to search for on the intertubes, until I looked on last.fm where I found that it had been rereleased a few years later under Leslie Winers' real name, so I found it and its really fucking good. The song in the video isn't on it but I had to post it, obviously.
